Biography

Yardena Rand brought civil funeral celebrancy to Rhode Island in mid-2005. She has worked with many grieving families who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. "Each family is special," she says, "so each service is unique." She strives to capture the essence of each loved one so that families can begin the long journey of grief by celebrating the full range of the relationship they have experienced while also acknowledging the terrible impact of the loss.

Yardena spent eight years as a senior executive in market research, profiling people based on information gathered from in-depth interviews and surveys. She has extensive experience writing and presenting to large and small audiences, from senior executives to average folk. She has a Ph.D. in American Cultural Studies from Brown University and has also written a book, Wild Open Spaces: Why We Love Westerns, based on interviews with over 1,000 Western fans.

In addition to her sensitivity to people’s needs in crisis, Yardena’s talent for gathering significant information, creating compelling overviews and delivering thoughtful presentations make her ideally suited for work as a civil funeral celebrant.

Yardena Rand received her civil funeral celebrant certification from Doug Manning of In-Sight Books, who has pioneered civil funeral celebrancy in the United States. Deeply aware of the importance of emotionally significant cultural rites of passage, Yardena understands the value of the funeral and has expertise in conducting family visits, funeral service planning and presenting funeral services. She adheres to a code of funeral celebrant practices and ethics.

Based in Rhode Island, Yardena serves the southern New England area (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts), and is able to travel and work with families in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and New York as well.
